Elena Platania is researcher II and conservation scientist at NIKU.

Her main area of ​​work is the analysis and identification of paint materials (pigments, binding media, natural and synthetic organic dyes) with spectroscopic techniques (Raman, FTIR).

She also has experience with SEM-EDX, XRF and optical microscopy.

Elena has previously worked at the University of Oslo, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the University of Florence.

She has experience with the analysis of late medieval paintings, polychrome sculptures and old textiles.

Elena holds a PhD in Conservation Science from the University of Florence (Department of Chemistry) since 2014.
