Ionut Cristi Nicu is a researcher within the High North Department. He has a PhD in Geography from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi, Romania and a research experience of 10 years.

His interdisciplinary background shows a high interest in the evaluation and monitoring of natural hazards (landslides, gully erosion, coastal erosion) with direct effects on the immovable cultural heritage. Also, he has been preoccupied in understanding the dynamics of Neolithic people within small catchments in the North-eastern part of Romania; this resulted in publishing his PhD thesis with Springer International Publishing. A few keywords that can better describe his research background and interests are: soil erosion, natural hazards, landslides, gully erosion, landscape archaeology, geomorphology, cultural heritage, RS and GIS, Neolithic archaeology, protection of cultural heritage, spatial analysis, predictive modelling.

He has been part of numerous archaeological and geographical expeditions (Russian Federation, Azerbaijan), field schools (Australia, Italy, Russian Federation), staff exchange (Ukraine, Russian Federation), and training courses (Sweden, Portugal, Romania).

He was the project coordinator for “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi of a Marie Curie Actions People International Research Staff Exchange Scheme with the 7th European Community Framework Programme; other roles included being a key expert, GIS expert and member in other research projects or grants. He is author and co-author of 28 scientific papers, one book and one book chapter.

He previously worked at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi (Romania) as an Assistant Researcher, Researcher and Associate Professor, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (Russian Federation) as a Senior Researcher, and Flinders University (Australia) as an Adjunct Lecturer (Academic Level B).
