Frida Marie Omma

Frida Marie Omma is a researcher at the High North Department in Tromsø. She holds a PhD from UiT The Arctic University of Norway and a master’s degree in nature-based tourism from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. Before joining NIKU, she worked as a visitor management adviser in Senja Municipality and as a PhD research fellow at UiT.

Omma works at the intersection of cultural heritage, environmental governance, tourism, and sustainable community development. Her research interests include visitor management, nature-based tourism, Indigenous and local knowledge, and relationships between people, nature, culture, and place.

Her doctoral research explored how nature guiding, local knowledge, and practices of care can contribute to more responsible tourism in Northern Troms. She has experience in qualitative methods, research and assessment work, project management, and collaboration among public authorities, local communities, and businesses.
