Mapping of dry rot damage in Norwegian masonry buildings
The project is a pilot initiative in collaboration between NIKU and VIS Forsikring.
Its goal is to update the knowledge base on the extent of damage, development trends, and risk factors related to dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) in masonry buildings in Oslo.
The last systematic mapping was conducted in 1938 in connection with the establishment of Norsk Hussopp Forsikring (now VIS Forsikring), and current knowledge is fragmented. The project combines damage data from insurance companies with surveys and interviews and includes heritage assessments of how dry rot damage affects both technical and historical values.
The project will result in a final report with recommendations for further work and potential national mapping. The findings will be communicated to property owners, insurance companies, craftsmen, and building managers, contributing to better damage prevention and maintenance of culturally significant building stock.
