Life cycle assessment and historic buildings
NIKU conducts research and offers consultancy addressing life cycle assessments in transformation and development projects.
Refurbishment policies for the historic segment of the building stock should be carefully promoted in the process of addressing the transition to a low-emission society. Calculating greenhouse gas emissions with life cycle assessments beforehand has proven to be an important addition to the assessment of historic values in connection with developmental projects.
By calculating various types of impacts related to refurbishment or energy efficiency measures we are increasing our knowledge platform in order to make better decisions in other planning and building cases.
Contributing to sound mitigation and preservation strategies is a prioritized action at NIKU. Inquiries regarding potential research partnerships can be addressed to Fredrik Berg.
