
Viking Age settlement discovered near the Gokstad mound
A substantial urban Viking Age settlement have been discovered near the Gokstad mound east of Sandefjord in Vestfold – without resorting to traditional archaeological excavations. It is too early to say what this find represents, but it could have formed part of a larger trading settlement with workshops and a harbour related to the rich finds in the burial mound.
