WP 0 Co-ordination and management

Objectives: Co-ordination and management (of the project)

WP is a vertical work-package that throughout all sections of the project. The aim is well balanced procedure among all following WPs concerning the logistics for data and information exchange, meetings, maintenance communication, economy and administration.

Methodology/ work description: WP 0 is one of the responsibilities of the co-ordinator group which includes:

  • To maintain the projects internal scientific and technical communication and correspondence among contractor groups and the European Commission.
  • To convene and organise two workshops
  • To organise and lead the analysis steps

Deliverables:

  • Co-ordination and management, successful logistics, technical and methodological project procedure with focus towards establishment of a well functioning network (input to all other WPs).

Cost of deliverables: 14,9% of total.

Milestones:

  • No distinct milestone( deliverables contributes to all milestones to be reached)

WP 1 Assessments of managing backgrounds and system requirements

Objectives: All participants will from their perspective give input to assessing the managing backgrounds, user needs and requirements. A wider community of users will be included both locally in pilot model area but also in a European perspective.

An assessment of status within monitoring techniques and methodology will be given as a background for discussions. Identify similarities and differences in management systems in order to identify a generalised list of requirements for monitoring cultural heritage sites at relevant management levels in a European perspective. Define requirements for data input and output from system. Identify necessary levels of institutional and community accessibility in relation to system.

Methodology/ work description:

  • Establish guidelines for standardised procedure for demand analysis and state of the art on management requirements and needs, also based on international conventions and policy documents.
  • Interview of relevant management institutions and user groups for requirements.
  • Analysis of input to demand specification.
  • Tuning between national requirements and international.
  • Workshop involving institutions and nations outside of consortium in order to develop agreed demand specification for system.

Deliverables:

  • Generalised demand specification from user side as an input to pilot-system (WP2), and indicator development (WP3).
  • Contributes to workshop, thematically covering WP1 and WP2 issues.
  • Interim report on user needs, made available on Internet.

Cost of deliverables: 13% of total

Milestones:

  • The deliverables contributes to the establishment of a demand specification for the pilot-system in Nemi (Milestone 1).

WP 2 Pilot system development in Nemi

Objective: Development of a pilot monitoring model based on an existing GIS for the Nemi cultural heritage environment in Italy. By use of case examples apply practical solutions to main theoretical framework in relation to defined management needs. Identify management relevant scalar levels for in- and out put of system. WP 2 is vertical as it will be used for testing and demonstration purposes, in order to illustrate effects of decisions taken in WP 1, 3 and 4, and used throughout the project.

Methodology/ work description:

  • Import of chosen layers of information from existing GIS for Nemi area.
  • Identify scalar levels to in and output of system.
  • Supplement pilot model with field data for individual scalar levels.
  • Test scalar transition indicators
  • Test towards decisions as the project proceeds
  • Use for testing and demonstration purposes throughout workshops and in dissemination.

Deliverables:

  • GIS demonstration model
  • Contributes to workshop, thematically covering WP1 and WP2 issues.
  • Contributes to demand specification system (Milestone 1)

Cost of deliverables: 12,2% of total.

Milestones:

  • Contributes to Milestone 1 – demand specification system
  • GIS demonstration model of Nemi pilot system for monitoring (Milestone 2)
  • Input to Milestone 3 (Public awareness)

WP 3 Establishment of indicator framework for pilot system

Objectives: Establishment of indicator framework for pilot system within the appropriate scales linked to management needs and strategies. Indicator evaluation in relation to their general applicability to the heterogeneous European cultural heritage sites and landscapes.

Methodology/ work description:

  • Establishment of an indicator framework based on literature and experience.
  • Workshop involving 4 next objectives:
  • Discussion of major development trends, and threshold factors
  • Discussion of ideal standards for reporting on the state of CH preservation – levels.
  • Establish a common understanding of the indicator and the scale concept.
  • Establishment of draft version of indicator manual.
  • Testing towards WP2 pilot model
  • Adjustment of system WP2 and indicator manual after testing.

Deliverables:

  • Workshop involving all participants and other invited European institutions.
  • Concorde version of standard indicator list, input to documentation standard (input to WP 4), interactive test of indicators between WP2 and WP3.

Cost of deliverables: 11,7% of total.

Milestones:

  • Contributes to demand specification framework (Milestone 1).
  • Contributes to Pilot model Nemi (Milestone 2).

WP 4 Establishment of a data collection system for the different monitoring scales. Documentation standard.

Objectives: Establishment of a data collection system for the different monitoring scales. Choice of data sampling strategy. Choice of remote sensing data sources. Collection of relevant background data. Establishment of documentation standard.

Methodology/ work description:

  • Establishment of a system for collecting remote sensing information and field data and other measurements, related to the chosen scalar levels of monitoring and the chosen indicators (WP3).
  • Collection of geo-referenced data/information for a GIS. (Environmental variables)
  • System evaluation through input/output in Nemi pilot model ( WP2)
  • Demonstration and discussion at workshop 2

Deliverables:

  • Contribution to workshop 2.
  • Concorde version of documentation standard scheme, field manual.
  • Input to GIS pilot model Nemi (WP2).

Cost of deliverables: 9% of total.

Milestones:

  • Contributes to demand specification framework (Milestone 1).
  • Contributes to Pilot model Nemi (Milestone 2).

WP 5 Reporting, publication and dissemination

Objectives: Dissemination and reporting towards the European commission, towards the scientific and management community and towards the public.

Methodology/ work description:

  • Final reports preparation for European Commission
  • Summary reports for management institutions and policy makers from the total project
  • Adaptation of pilot model Nemi for the public and management at the Lake Nemi Ship museum.
  • Writing of manuscripts for scientific publication for submission to reviewed international journals.
